Lions and Tigers and Monkeys, Oh My!

I decided that once my kids turn 5 it's a good year to start having a 'friend party'. So last year Duncan chose pirates for his theme and this year he wanted jungle. We had his party this last Saturday. But first came his family party on his actual birthday. My mom and dad and my brother's family came over for the festivities. Here he is with all of his loot:

And here are the alien/monster cupcakes I made. My mom got me these cute cupcake holders for Christmas and this is the first chance I've had to use them.
Saturday was the big day for the friends party. Of course I was scrambling around until the last second trying to get everything ready. He invited 10 kids and 9 came. I did a bunch of stuff with lions and tigers and monkeys. Instead of a cake I made cake pops into little animals. They were a LOT of work but it was kind of fun.

Unfortunately, the monkeys look a lot more like pigs. I'm not sure what I could have done differently, but obviously something.

Here are all the kids with their best roars. I had gotten a little foam picture frame craft kit and all the kids made a frame and then we put this picture in it for them to take home.

We played pin the banana on the monkey, animal charades, Tiger Tiger Monkey (like duck duck goose), and then it was time for presents. Duncan was very excited with all the stuff he got. Amazingly, no duplicates and nothing that we already had. What luck! After that we put on Duncan's favorite rock music and danced around until parents started showing up. Once again my amazing niece and nephews came to help and supervise. They are awesome. All in all, it was a great day. I think I am recovered now, but just barely!

You know, it's blog posts like this that make me nervous about being a parent. I'm the least creative person I know! How am I supposed to do stuff like this??? Luckily, I have people like you to copy!

Happy birthday Duncan and awesome party Jaimee! I saw those cake pops on Bakerella's blog and have wanted to try them ever since. And such a cute idea to send all the kids home with a picture from the party. Wow! We're excited to move closer to you guys! Maybe some of your creativeness will rub off on me. :)

Wow- that is a lot of work...which is probably why Carter has never had a real birthday party :). Way to go Jaimee- you are so clever!

The boys had so much fun at the party. The little animal pops were awesome! They were so cute I didn't let the boys eat them until I could show Trevor. And I admit, I ate one, it was so yummy! Good job Jaimee!
