A Momentous Occasion

So I guess I am kind of a weird mom about my boys' hair. It seems like most moms I talk to just want really short cuts on their boys so they don't have to worry about it. But I have always loved their hair long and have refused to let it be short ever. It has driven Jeff crazy over the years, but he has let me have my way (although with a good bit of complaining).

Well, Duncan has been asking for a different haircut for probably a year now. I've kept putting him off because I loved that all three boys matched. But I knew I would have to give in sometime so I promised myself that I would let him get a new cut before school started. Plus my whole family was getting a portrait done (parents, brother's family, us) so it seemed silly to have him have his old haircut in a big deal picture when I knew it would be cut soon. So a couple of weeks ago the timing was right. Here he was before, when his hair was WAY longer than normal. (If you want to know what he normally looks like just see the pic at the top of the blog.)

Getting it cut - Jeff's former carpool buddy's wife does hair so I took him over there since I knew I wouldn't be chicken about saying how it should be with someone I knew as opposed to some stranger.

After! I know, I know, not a dramatic super short difference, but he is happy with it. It's not such a little boy haircut. He really did lose a lot of hair. And I think he looks nice and handsome. Plus I can part his hair now for church.

And from the side. He actually has almost the same haircut as his cousin Bryce, who's 12. I do miss his old hair, and sometimes I wish I had tried to have her do the kind of cut where it's pretty shaggy, sticking out on the sides a little and in back, but I console myself with the fact that clean-cut is probably better and I really don't know if his hair could have done that kind of cut anyways since it has absolutely no curl or wave in it. I really wish I didn't care so much!

Yeah, I really wish you didn't care so much too, but his hair did turn out pretty cool.

I'm going to invite him over one day and convince him how cool it'd be to shave it all off. Then I'll take care of it for him.
