First Day of Kindergarten

Hooray! The day has FINALLY come!!!! Dayton has been so dang excited for his first day of school. He's been complaining that he didn't get to go to school for two full years, ever since Duncan started. Especially in the last week, since kindergarten starts a week later here. He's been downright grouchy about it. But yesterday, finally, his dream came true.

His fun actually started the day before when just me and him went out to lunch together. I did that with Duncan before he started school and it's just nice to be able to talk without so much other stuff going on. We went to Paradise, which Dayton picked because he wanted to be able to keep the cup he got his drink in. We sat outside and had a great time.

Then that night he pulled out his THIRD tooth at dinner. Duncan is quite put out that Dayton has now lost more teeth than him. Plus Duncan didn't lose any until he was in first grade, and Dayton lost his first two in preschool.

This picture really looks nothing like him but it was the only one I got that showed the newest hole in his mouth.

Here he is with the traditional first-day-of-school ABC pancakes.

What a cutie! He was dying to leave at this point. Which, as it turns out, we should have.

I am so lame - Dayton was late for his very first day. I have no idea how it took us so long to walk down to the school - I thought we had plenty of time. But when we got there every single kid was already sitting down tracing their name, and no parents were left in the room. It was dead quiet. When I took Duncan for his first day the place was a zoo! Parents everywhere taking pictures, crying kids..... I have to congratulate myself though for being brave enough to still take his picture. I knew I would be even madder at myself if I chickened out. So go me. Except not, because later in the day I messed up again. I wanted to pick him up instead of having him walk home with Duncan and his cousin this first day so I could get a picture of him coming out of the gate with his whole class...I had a picture of Duncan like that and I thought it was really cute to see his little face in the group. So I left with plenty of spare time. Except the time I had in my head to get there was the time that the kids actually would arrive home after walking. So the bell rang to let school out when I was still on my street. I know, I am a genius. By the time I got there he was one of only three kids still waiting to be picked up. I know no one will remember this except me but I also messed up on Duncan's first day of kindergarten by having him take his backpack off for his official picture. I know, so not a big deal, but it is to me. Sigh. Maybe I will get things right with Tucker.
