Cowboy Up!

Dayton chose a cowboy theme for his party this year. Yee-haw! It was pretty easy to figure out games to play, and while I originally was stressed because I couldn't find any little favors to give to the kids I ended up just making some stuff that worked great.

When everyone got there everyone got a bandanna and a paper moustache if they wanted one. I told them to make their best mean face and then later printed their picture on a wanted poster. Super easy favor!

Dayton makes a pretty good bandit

Is Tucker not the cutest little cowboy ever?

Ready for a showdown.

First we played who can lasso the cow. Jeff tied rope into little lassos for everyone (also a good favor) and they tried to lasso Ellie's little cow car. It was pretty hard, but a couple of kids got it.

Next up was pin the moustache on the cowboy. I pretty much do this game at every party and just adjust it to whatever the theme is. We also played who can throw the snake in the boot (Toy Story reference there) and Sheriff Says. Easy!

He got some good loot - no duplicates of anything he already has, which is great. I always try to get all the kids to sit back so everyone can see and I can get some decent pictures but it never works...they are always too excited to see - kind of cute.

He originally wanted a cowboy hat cake but I really didn't feel up to being super creative, so I talked him into cupcakes with little boots and cowboy hats on top. It worked. Poor Dayton's birthday always gets a little shafted...it's right after Thanksgiving, plus Christmas is right around the corner and it just seems like I don't put in nearly the effort I do for Duncan's parties. Next year I need to start getting stuff done early (and when would that be? Right around Halloween and Ellie's birthday. See the problem?). Hopefully he doesn't remember the hours I spent making jungle animal cake pops for Duncan's fifth birthday or the huge number of paper musical notes I spent over an hour hanging from the ceiling for Duncan's rock 'n roll party last year. Oh well, at least he was happy with it, and that's all that matters, right?
