Happy Birthday Ellie!!!

Sweet little Ellie Bells is FOUR today! Holy cow. I really feel bad for her having her birthday the day after Halloween b/c there is so much prep and excitement leading up to Halloween that I feel like her birthday doesn't get all the attention it deserves. But she seems happy enough with it. She was so sad this morning when I told her that her family party wouldn't be until Sunday (Friday night is a difficult time to get everyone together) but once I started talking about everything we would decorate with for her party she cheered up. Maybe I will actually get stuff up here about her party this year!

With all three of the boys (except Charlie of course) they all went through horrible phases as three-year-olds. There never has been any terrible twos, but we definitely had the terrible threes. But I realized today once I thought about it that Ellie never did that. Sure, she had some times where she got a little sassy but nothing even remotely approaching the boys. Go Ellie!! She really is just a delightful little girl. She loves everyone and is so agreeable. She especially loves her brothers - she is so spoiled by them. Her and Tucker are best buddies and will play for hours together. And she is such a good helper with Charlie - she always offers to hold his hands up while I'm changing his diaper so he doesn't get all gross. She waits all day for Jeff to get home from work and she's always so excited on Friday nights when he tells her he doesn't have to go to work for two whole days.

I really just love this age...they are learning so much about the world around them and it's hilarious to see how they process it and how they put things together in their mind. I crack up all the time at the funny things Ellie says. Here is a sampling:

  • After going to change her clothes one day: "There. Now I'm comfy AND stylish"
  • Ellie: "We can get to Heaven in an airplane" Me: "No, it doesn't work that way. We can't just get there in an airplane" Ellie: "Maybe a hot air balloon"
  • After I told her that I was going to hide something of hers where she couldn't find it if she didn't listen to me: "I'm very clever you know"
  • When a very loud thunderstorm was going on after she was in bed she came out and said "That storm is wrecking my beauty sleep"
  • When Jeff was brushing her hair: "I told you to stop brushing my hair. Number one, it hurts. Number two, it's annoying." Jeff told her she was being a little bossy. She said "I"m not bossy, the boys are bossy. I'm a rock star"

My worst nightmare almost came true a week or so ago...she told Tucker to cut some of her hair and he did it. Luckily he just cut a tiny bit off the end of her braid, a little bit of her sideburns, and a bit off the front little section that now is super annoying b/c I can't put it back in a ponytail without clipping it back. But when I think about what could have happened I can't be too upset. Her hair is my absolute favorite thing - I love to brush it, I love to do fun things with it, I love to look at it! It's all the way down to her waist and I hope she always likes to keep it long.

I just love this little girl so much. One of my very favorite things is when I sing her a song at bedtime and she sings with me so sweetly. She really, really loves to sing and she's great at memorizing songs. If Jeff puts her to bed he sings her a long song with lots of words and she knows all the verses. If she hears something just a few times she will just memorize it. Her favorite songs on the radio are 'crazy songs' like Dynamite. But she also loves Primary songs. I was so impressed this year when she could sing the prophet song the whole way through all by herself. She also loves to play in her room - we keep most all of her toys in there so they stay nice instead of getting all crazy and messy in the playroom. She will just sit and play Little People forever and her and Tucker love to dress up their squishy toys together. It's so fun having a girl and I love that she is so girly and loves pretty things but also can hold her own with her brothers. She loves for me to paint her toenails and put 'sparkles' on them. She practically lives in her dress up clothes and loves all her jewelry.

She is just awesome, plain and simple. Totally, completely awesome. We love you Ellie!!!!
