The whole first grade got to go to the zoo yesterday for a field trip. Duncan surprised me by asking me to go with as a chaperone. Normally he won't even claim me as his mother (see sidewalk post). But he really, really wanted me to go so of course I was thrilled. My mom was nice enough to watch the rest of the kiddos...I was a little nervous about leaving Ellie for so long, not b/c she is any trouble, but I just never have left her for more than a couple of hours. She did great though. Anyways, the zoo was a lot of fun. Duncan is such a goof with his friends.
We got really lucky weather-wise b/c it was really gloomy out, but it only sprinkled while we were there. As soon as we left it started pouring! There were enough moms that wanted to go that we each only had 3 kids to watch. Not bad at all. Plus there was no structure or schedule. We were free to walk around wherever until it was time to go. The kids each had a lunch that they could eat whenever they wanted.
The giraffes were really pretty cool except the kids said that there used to be a baby giraffe that died recently. Sad. Wow, Duncan really is short. I forget that sometimes.
I think this rhino was actually their favorite part. They spent at least 20 minutes playing on it.
This is kind of hard to see b/c of the reflection, but the little monkey at the bottom was really cool. If you put your hand up to the glass he would put his up against it. He'd even climb his little tree to do it up high. He was really cute.
