Family Get Together

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted anything. I was lucky enough to get sick with a cold on Christmas Eve that lasted a week and turned into a sinus infection. So I wasn't doing anything except trying to make my house not look like a toy factory exploded inside of it from Christmas until we left on a vacation the week after. And now it seems a little late to post anything about Christmas, so oh well.

In the past year both of my grandparents on my mom's side passed away. My brother and I both flew down for my grandma's funeral in May, but when my grandpa died a few months later my mom and her siblings decided that instead having everyone fly in again that we would just plan a family gathering for later on for everyone to get together and remember Pops and Mere (that's what everyone called them). Since families are spread out between Utah, Arizona, and California they decided that Vegas was a nice central meeting place. Not my favorite place to go, but since we stayed away from the Strip it really was pretty nice. Better than I expected even. So here's a look at everything we did:

Look at them so cute all lined up. They stayed up way late every night since if we put them to bed on time we would just be stuck in our hotel room while everyone else had fun and it was a good thing - otherwise they NEVER would have gone to bed all together like that.

It was really nice weather there, but not quite hot enough for swimming in my opinion, so we just went down to the pool to dip our feet in. But the kids (and their cousins) had other ideas.

They had such a good time together. My brother's family hadn't brought suits, but that didn't stop their kids from swimming anyway. My cousins' kids were also there and even though our kids had only met them once or twice quite awhile ago they all played great!

After swimming all the kids took a turn at a pinata that my aunt had brought. Fabulous idea. They went youngest to oldest, and the kid after Duncan who's seven finally whacked it open. It was a free-for-all after that. I even managed to snag some of Duncan's stash for myself.

The hotel we stayed at had a bowling alley inside so all 24 of us went bowling one morning. I bowled the worst game of my entire life! The kids loved it though. My poor nephew got stuck in the kiddie lane and their game took forever since all of the little kids' balls rolled so slowly. Tucker had the best time I think....after every turn he would do a little dance after his ball knocked some pins down.

Later that day us and my parents and my brother's family went to Hoover Dam, where Jeff tried to get arrested. There really wasn't much to do there since the tour cost $30 a person and even the visitor's center charged $8. Really lame.

They are building a pretty cool bridge though. This thing is enormous.

Poor Dayton was so worn out by the third day that he fell asleep just sitting there while we were all talking.

The absolute best thing was on an upstairs floor of the hotel. There was this gigantic hallway that no one was ever in that had tables and chairs lining the walls. So we would go up there to play games and let the kids run around to their heart's content. This shot only shows about half the length of it. Jeff and my brother and my nephew even had a race down it, which Jeff really regretted the next day. My brother and nephew are runners and Jeff is...well...not. His legs hurt pretty bad afterward.

The last day we went in the hot tub, which was really more of a warm tub so we even let Ellie come in.

She totally loves to float. I didn't have any swim diapers in her size handy so she just wore Tucker's. Just a tad big.
We had a really good time there and it was fun to hang out with people that we hardly ever see. The kids all had a blast playing with new cousins and getting to spend lots more time with the cousins that are just down the street from us :) Here's hoping we do it again sometime.

What a fun little family trip. I am sorry to hear about Pops and Mere passing away though.
