Family Olympics

I have mentioned before about my amazingly talented sister-in-law...she is just full of fun ideas. Last year she put together a Family Olympics for her own family that sounded like a lot of fun. So this year she offered to do one for all of us (her family, mine, and my parents) for Memorial Day. I was super excited since I thought the original one had looked like such a good time. The day did not disappoint. I forgot to get pictures of some of the events, but I think I caught most of them.

We started things off with a rousing game of Bunco, which I hadn't played since one night at a Young Women activity years ago. If anyone needs a great game for a lot of people where half of them are kids, Bunco is perfect. My nephew Bryce and I were teamed up and sadly, we lost every single round. Jeff and Dayton managed to barely get a medal, with 4th place. No pics of this event...I didn't remember my camera until the next one.

Which was....
spitting sunflower seeds onto a target...the kids had a blast with this one. Tucker kept spitting the rest of the day.

Next up was trying to see who could go the longest without laughing while we were all looking at each other. For anyone who knew me in high school you will not be surprised that I lost this event right away. The final two came down to my dad and Jeff, which is again not surprising at all:

Jeff lucked into the win when our dog jumped into my dad's lap and licked his face. Go Pig!
Then came the licorice eating contest. Yucky black licorice unfortunately...but I guess it's more of a challenge that way. Everyone had a partner and you had to start at separate ends and eat until it was gone, Lady and the Tramp style. You didn't win until your mouth was empty. I was paired up with Duncan and we didn't do too well.

Here are my two nephews desperately trying to medal. Trevor, on the left, didn't want me to post this picture, but it's too funny not to. My brother cleaned up at this event, finishing totally on his own since his little girl, Grace, couldn't even get the string into her mouth to help.

After it was over Tucker and Gracie decided to do their own version.

The next event was carrying Runts candies from one bowl to another using chopsticks and I actually took second in that event, but alas, no pictures again.
Then came Hyper Dash. I love this game. Anyone with little boys who need to get energy out needs this game. Duncan won the kid round.
I can't believe how bad I hurt after my turn. I am very, very out of shape apparently. Still lots of fun though.

The next round was Tucker's favorite. You had to maneuver a raw egg down a plank. The kids got to use their noses (or in Tucker's case, his tongue), and the adults had to blow. If it fell off the edge, you had to start over. The hardest part was getting low enough to the ground...you kind of ended up doing The Worm. I did manage to get fourth place on this one though, and Jeff took first!

The last event was balancing. I knew this event was mine. All of us had a little piece of a 2x4 to stand on with one leg. Quite a few people were out right away and it came down to me, my nephew, my niece, and Jeff. I prevailed and got my one and only first place medal!
Once Duncan was out I asked him to get a picture of everybody balancing and this is the picture I found on the camera. Oh well, at least you can get the gist of it.

Here are the final standings (yes, Holly actually made medals for everything). I am on the middle poster, third one down, with a sad 3 total medals. But at least Jeff only got 3 too. Chris and Holly were the clear winners, though their daughter Kimberly almost caught them. She had one more medal, but theirs were worth more.
Here are the boys afterwards, so proud of their medal count! Tucker didn't techinically participate in most of the events, so he just took someone else's off the board.

This was seriously the most fun I have had in a long time, so thanks to Holly! Let's make this a yearly tradition.

Holly makes the rest of us feel like losers, what a fun day. I may borrow some ideas for our family reunion.
