All right, we'll start with the adventure. Friday night my parents asked if we wanted to drive up the canyon with them and have a cookout. We thought that sounded like a great idea so we all piled in the van and were on our way. Well about ten minutes into the drive Jeff suddenly pulled the van off the side of the road and he and my dad jumped out of the car. My mom and I were completely oblivious as to what was going on since we were sitting in the back and hadn't seen anything. Apparently a car going the opposite direction had basically just fallen off the side of the road into a ditch. So they ran over there to see if anyone was hurt and to help. The guys in the car were climbing out but Jeff saw that one of them was covered in blood so he braced himself on a tire to offer him a hand. Unfortunately that tire wasn't locked as he had thought so he tumbled down into the ditch himself. It turned out that the guy he was trying to help was fine - the blood was just from the airbag that went off and scratched his arms. Three days later Jeff is still very sore, poor guy. Here are all the burns on his foot. Not a very good reward for playing hero, huh?
This is the tow truck pulling the car out on our way home...sorry it's blurry, but we were driving while I took the picture.
So, onto the cookout part of the evening. The spot we picked had this gigantic rock right by the grill and the boys had a good time being goofs.
Here's Jeff, injured foot and all, using a rock to chip some wood chips out to use for the fire. It took FOREVER to get it started since we had forgotten lighter fluid (and cooking utensils and wipes for that matter). But they got it eventually and the brats we had were delicious.
Here are the boys and my mom coming back from the adventure walk while we were waiting for dinner to get done. They didn't get very far since my mom was wearing flip flops, Duncan was wearing cowboy boots (so very fashionable with shorts) and Dayton was wearing Crocs.
Tucker wasn't quite sure about his toasted marshmallow. He was wondering why the heck it kept sticking to him. He was so funny after he was done...he grabbed a napkin and of course got little pieces of it everywhere. He kept waving his hands around and yelling trying to get it all off.
Duncan did pretty good at keeping neat, but Dayton was just as messy as Tucker. He also got napkin pieces stuck all over his face. But hey, what good are marshmallows if you can't make a big mess?

Sadly this adventure goes right with our family motto of 'no good deed goes unpunished'. I hope Jeff is feeling better. But way to be the helpful guy!! Looks like a cool place for a cookout- you'll have to tell us where it is.
Oh Jeff, you probably tripped on your shoelace and made up the whole 'helping an accident victim' to feel macho. :)
It looks like an eventful night, at least the Smores worked out. They are the most important part. :)
